LATEST NEWS and ARCHIVE

of interest to OCL members

*********************************

The New Thomas Cotton Room is now open and available to members

The room will always be available to members on days when our meetings are taking place.

So please feel free to use it if you arrive early for the meeting.

It will also be available at other times by prior application to the RCP events department.

This to make absolutely sure that the room is not being used for other college purposes which may happen occasionally.

The Osler Club of London is particularly grateful to Sir Richard Thompson FRCP KCVO (The Hon. Treasurer of the RCP) for his extremely generous support for this project.

A new biography of great interest to OCL members

Prof: The life of Sheila Sherlock 'The Liver Queen'

Sheila Sherlock was complex, talented and multi-dimensional. Her perseverance, determination and discipline provided medicine with the means of diagnosing and treating hepatic disorder; she gave birth to the new specialty of liver disease.

Hepatologists flocked to London to visit and study with ‘Prof’.

This biography is compact enough for the busy reader, lucid enough for the student and authoritative enough for the scholar.

For more information please see follow the link to the RCP website:

where you will be able to purchase the book on line! Our Hon Sec will have more details if needed at the next OCL meeting in November.

Some of these works and objects are put on display during special

Excellent new website which may be of particular

interest to our medical students.

They tell us: "We are a group of practising doctors and educators in New Zealand, and Osler enthusiasts.

We have recently developed a free online
resource for medical students to explore and learn by the

Oslerian philosophy.

We believe we offer a rather unique and interesting way for new generations of students to access Osler and his ideals".

Have a look and let us know what you think!
